Vonavir is an antiretroviral therapy (ART) tablet containing a combination of:Efavirenz 600 mgEmtricitabine 200 mgTenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg
Contraindications:
Do not use Vonavir if you:Are allergic to efavirenz, emtricitabine, tenofovir, or any excipients.Have severe liver impairment (significant hepatic dysfunction).Have moderate to severe renal impairment (dose adjustment or alternative may be needed).Have a heart condition with QT interval prolongation, history of arrhythmias, or low electrolytes (risk of serious cardiac effects).Important interaction contraindications:Avoid use with certain drugs that interact with efavirenz (e.g., terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, quinidine, ergot alkaloids, some sedatives and antiarrhythmics).Herbal supplements like St. John’s Wort can reduce efavirenz effectiveness and are not recommended.
Do not stop therapy suddenly. Stopping can lead to viral rebound and resistance.Monitor liver function tests (LFTs), kidney function (KFTs), and viral load/CD4 regularly.Use caution in patients with a history of psychiatric illness, seizures, or substance abuse.May cause dizziness and impaired concentration — avoid driving/heavy machinery if affected
