Used For:

• Orofer XT is used to prevent and treat iron deficiency and folate deficiency anemia, especially in: Iron deficiency anemia (low hemoglobin, fatigue, pallor) Anemia in pregnancy and lactation Anemia due to chronic blood loss or poor diet Post-surgery recovery Nutritional deficiency in children and adolescents Adjuvant therapy in chronic diseases causing anemia (e.g., kidney disease,infections)

Adult Dosage:

• 1 tablet once daily, after meals with water or juice. In severe deficiency, doctor may advise 1 tablet twice daily. Duration: usually 8–12 weeks or until hemoglobin normalizes. Continue for 1–3 months after correction to replenish iron stores.

Contraindications:

• Do not use Orofer XT in: Hypersensitivity to iron or folic acid Hemochromatosis or hemosiderosis (iron overload) Hemolytic anemia (where iron stores are normal or high) Anemias not caused by iron deficiency (e.g., thalassemia, megaloblastic anemia due to B12 deficiency alone) Severe liver disease Active peptic ulcer or gastritis (use with caution)

Side Effects:

• Usually well-tolerated when taken after meals, but may cause: Common (mild) side effects: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain Constipation or sometimes diarrhea Dark stools (harmless and expected) Metallic taste in mouth

Precautions:

• Take after food to reduce gastric upset. Do not crush or chew tablets — swallow whole. Take at same time daily for consistent results. Pregnancy/Lactation: Safe and commonly prescribed under medical supervision. Monitor hemoglobin and ferritin levels periodically if on long-term therapy. Avoid overdose, especially in children — iron overdose can be toxic.

Dietary Restrictions:

• Take with water or orange juice (Vitamin C improves iron absorption). Avoid taking with: Milk, tea, or coffee — they reduce iron absorption. Calcium or antacids — reduce absorption (keep a 2-hour gap). High-fiber foods (bran, cereals) — may interfere with absorption. Eat iron-rich foods: green leafy vegetables, red meat, jaggery, lentils, eggs, beetroot. Maintain hydration and fiber intake to prevent constipation.
