• Metrogyl is an antibacterial and antiprotozoal drug used to treat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria and protozoa.Common Indications:Bacterial infections:Dental infectionsGingivitis and periodontitisPelvic inflammatory disease (PID)Intra-abdominal infections (peritonitis, liver abscess)Post-surgical anaerobic infectionsSepticemia (due to anaerobes)Protozoal infections:Amoebiasis (intestinal & liver abscess)GiardiasisTrichomoniasis (vaginal infection)

Adult Dosage:

• Amoebiasis (intestinal) 400–800 mg 3 times/day 5–10 daysAmoebic liver abscess 800 mg 3 times/day 5–10 daysGiardiasis 400 mg 3 times/day 5–7 daysTrichomoniasis 2 g single dose or 400 mg 2–3 times/day 5–7 daysAnaerobic bacterial infections 400–500 mg every 8 hours 7–10 days

Contraindications:

Precautions:

• Avoid alcohol during treatment and at least 48 hours after last dose.Take after meals to reduce stomach irritation.Use cautiously in:Liver diseaseEpilepsy or other CNS disordersPregnancy and breastfeeding (consult doctor)Monitor for numbness or tingling in hands/feet if used long-term.Do not drive if feeling dizzy or drowsy.

Dietary Restrictions:

• Strictly avoid alcohol (including cough syrups, mouthwashes, fermented foods, etc.) during and for 48 hours after therapy.Take after food with water to minimize nausea.Maintain adequate hydration.Avoid spicy or oily foods if GI upset occurs.Continue full course even if symptoms improve early (to prevent resistance).
